Explore new frontiers in the information extraction and the semantic search technologies.
Specific research will be carried out in order to provide smart management of the collaboration information, i.e. by indexing and semantic annotation of e-mail, files, procedures steps, etc. The expected result is to empower the SME user when interacting with the LEs and obtain an efficient management of the exchanged information.
In detail, the collaboration artifacts containing human readable textual data will be analyzed to extract business related objects and entities. The extracted semi-structured data, expressing lightweight semantics, will be used for:
- Automatic recommendation system helping users in the interoperability mediation task. That is, a recommendation system that will analyze textual data and prepare a structured input for the legacy systems of the LE counterpart. The user will be responsible for control of the prepared inputs and correction of possible recommendation errors.
- Smart semantic search in the data exchange of the entire collaboration. Here, the extracted lightweight semantics will be combined with traditional information retrieval methods with the goal to fulfill user information needs more efficiently, and thus save the costs related to information search (which was estimated to be around 8.8 hours per week, according to 2009 study by International Data Corporation). As the SME often lacks CRM and ERP systems, the semantic search of the VENIS are intended to substitute those systems for information gathering tasks.
- First research results are already available for semantic search, semantic annotation on e-mail communication and enterprise interoperability supported by lightweight semantics.
